So, Redeye's Hothouse 2014 has been and gone. I got up and spoke as planned. Kind of. What I came out with wasn't exactly what I had planned to say but ended up being more like "waffle waffle waffle waffle waffle". I'm not sure why as I was well prepared and I do a fair bit of public speaking. I think maybe it was the fact that I was surrounded by professionals and qualified photographers, whereas i'm self-taught; coupled with the fact that I spent all my pre-presentation calm-down time trying to get my camcorder working. It was working the night before but decided to give up on the day so alas I couldn't record my talk. Maybe that's a good thing considering how it felt like it went!
On the bright side though the mingling was fantastic! I met some superb people, some of whom had contacted me through this site to say they were going to be at Hothouse (you know who you are). And it was great to meet some of my fellow presenters, especially Alastair Ross whose presentation, as anticipated, was great. I had a lot of interest and positive feedback on the prints I had on display which was really encouraging because noone outside of my family or friends has seen my prints for real, only online. It's nice to receive encouragement from ones fellows from time to time.
Unfortunately I couldn't stay very long after my presentation as Jess and I couldn't find a dog-sitter so we had to return home to rescue Ellie from loneliness. But I had a fantastic morning and enjoyed every minute of it. Hopefully I will get to do something similar again in the future. I didn't take any photos on the day as I was flapping about a bit, but lots of people were wandering round with there cameras so no doubt some images will surface over the coming weeks. For now i'm going to be a little self-indulgent and enjoy seeing my name printed in the programme for the day...
